Matt’s passion for personal finance began the moment he held his first dollar. Since then, he’s spent 30+ years immersing himself in every aspect of the subject through extensive reading and research.
He began his career in engineering out of a love for science, with a strong focus on cost reduction and budget management—skills he quickly realized could be used to optimize our own family’s finances.
After a decade working on everything from spacecraft to bulldozers to defense systems, he took the leap and left the corporate world to pursue his other passion: helping families win with money.
Along the way he met Jeena, the love of his life, and together we built a life rooted in shared values: smart spending, simple joys, and saving with purpose.
We started our life together with modest means:
Even as Matt’s income grew, our household earnings stayed pretty close to the national average due to being a single income family.
But despite that, we were able to thrive with our finances because of the lifestyle we built around smart saving, creative earning, and sensible investing.
Over the years, those strategies allowed us to save nearly 70% of our income – all while living comfortably as a growing family of five, now with three amazing kids.
When we saw friends and families around us continuously struggling despite similar incomes in today’s world of inflation and financial uncertainty, we knew we had to do something.
Saving Your Tail was born from that passion to help!
